I have had diabetes type one for over 9 years. I have sat down and made an accurate list of how much diabetes cost me to live for one year. I have concluded that without Centrelink healthcare card the total cost for me to stay alive is $2598 per year (I am on an insulin pump). I have been to Centrelink and they have declined my application for a healthcare card on several occasions, the only time I have received one is when I am on benefits. I cannot afford this amount and do not wish to be on the dole doing nothing for the rest of my life so how am I supposed to stay alive. It seems like an awful lot of money for an unemployed 18yr old to pay just to live especially when I had no say in the matter. What happens if I can’t find the money for insulin, what do I do just die? This is not fair!

Is there a local support group for kiddies in our area, the Sutherland Shire in NSW?

I am doing an assignment for my HSC on Diabetes and Youth and am a diabetic myself. I am wondering – do young people suffering from diabetes often find it hard to relate their diabetes to their doctors and educators because many of them don’t have diabetes themselves and perhaps “go by the book” too much in regards to blood glucose levels and partying, alcohol etc. I have found that not many doctors are willing to discuss the effects of alcohol, sex, drugs and their relation to diabetes? Do you know why this is?

I have a couple of questions for you to answer for me if possible it would be greatly appreciated. When was the jelly bean club first started? Who developed the organisation? Why was the club developed? Who is the target audience? How is the message promoted in the community? How effective has the strategy been?

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in September last year. I have recently changed schools and my new teacher has asked me to give a presentation to my class on my diabetes so they all understand it better. I was wondering how I could get access to Professor Bumblebee's Guide to Type 1 Diabetes?

Hey guys, I’ve had diabetes since 01/05/1997 I’ve had it now for nearly 7 years, since I was three. Mum said I can go on a camp a bit later on when I’m a bit more grown up! I would love a pen pal because I would love someone to talk about my problems

Hi I'm Ashleigh, and I was diagnosed at the end of 2002 and I live in a small town called Inverloch and I don't really know anyone with diabetes, (Except my dad and 2 kids at my school, but they don't really like to talk about it) I'd really like to get in touch with someone my age who has diabetes. Do you have any ideas? thanx
