Thanks for your question to the question forum.
You will notice that insulin requirements and appetite change over time as children go through different stages of growth and development. Food intake and insulin therefore need constant adjustment and re-adjustment as a child grows. Ideally diabetes management should be planned around your child’s appetite, activity levels and usual routine, rather than vice versa.
Regular contact with your diabetes team, including your doctor, diabetes educator and dietitian can assist you with making appropriate changes to the diabetes management plan. We would suggest a phone call to your doctor or diabetes educator if your child is having frequent hypos to see what immediate adjustments can be made, followed up by a review appointment with the whole team as soon as possible.
We hope this is of some help to you.
