Question asked by: Seb (12) ---VIC

Question: My name is SC and I have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes three months ago. I am still on my honeymoon period but have noticed that this week during school holidays my BGL is rising on an average between 9 and 10. Should I be worried. I stress a lot about high BGL because I don't want any problems like heart disease etc

Answer:

Hi Seb,

Thank you for your question to the forum.

If you can, try not to worry, especially when your BGL's are 9 and 10. When you worry this can affect your BGL's too.

Your diabetes educator is the best person to talk to about your BGL's and they can give you a guide for what to do if your BGL's become too high.

It's great you are thinking about the long term problems that might happen as a result of diabetes, but try not to worry about it, remembering too that complications of diabetes usually happen when BGL's have been very high for a long time.

So have a chat to your educator, who might be able to talk you though what your BGL's should be, why BGL's go up and down and what to do about it when it happens.

Best Wishes,
