Question: are teachers allowed to test my blood sugar level?

Answer:

Hi Susie,

Thank you for your question to the forum.

Teachers are allowed to test blood sugar levels if you and your parents agree to it. Usually parents will show staff at the school (including teachers and office staff) how to test, just in case the child with diabetes is unable to do their own test.

Sometimes diabetes educators will also come to the school to provide education to teachers and office staff about diabetes care. We do that here at the Australian Diabetes Council.

If you need any more information about testing at school, please contact us on: 1300 342 238.

I hope this helps,

Natalie
